Equality Kansas Meeting 7/18/16

Equality Kansas Meeting 7/18/16

Attendees: Luc B., Benedette K, Stephanie Mott, Liatris S
Meeting was called to order at 7:03 PM.
The minutes from the prior meeting were approved by unanimous vote.
Chair report: Luc went to the recent Pride meeting, and the Chapter Conference meeting in Salina. Luc expressed appreciation for Stephanie’s assistance in structural networking/relationships. The group discussed representation at PRIDE. The group voted unanimously to obtain a shared table at the event.
Vice-chair report: The Bowling for Equality event has been posted on the digital personal news board for my employer, as well as a paper copy at my cosmetician. It will also be announced in MCC Topeka’s e-mail, and at least once to the congregation at a service. TTA and PFLAG have been notified as well. Liatris volunteered to publicize it to the UUFT. Stephanie will continue to promote the event in digital media and other opportunities as they present themselves.
Treasurer: Per Stephanie M balance is $112.22, unchanged from prior report. $20 is owed to Benedette for Gage Center bowling reservations and ticket printing.
Chapter Conference: The next conference will be August 7th, in Wichita. Luc and Stephanie will attend via audio-link.
11/20 is Transgender Day of Remembrance, (TDOR) this year, although the actual date of local observation is planned to be 11/19, a Saturday.
Equality Efforts: We discussed the current status of Equality efforts in Topeka, including primary and likely general election candidates. We have obtained some survey results, and await more of them. EQKS may endorse candidates, but EQKS members may still support and vote for the candidates of their own choice, as individual decisions.
The group proposed and unanimously voted to enable Luc and Stephanie to move forward, should they choose, with local equality legislation.
Topeka Pride meeting will be August 28, at MCC, at 6 PM.
Trans-Kansas #4 will be located in Topeka, August 26th & 27th at the UUFT. See transkansas.com for more information.
See capcitycenter.org or their Facebook page for information on their fund-raiser set for 7/22. The Gala is 7 PM, at Serendipity.
Meeting adjourned at 8:27 PM
