Equality Kansas Meeting 6/20/16

Attendees: Luc B., Benedette K, Stephanie Mott, Liatris S, and guests from Beacon
Meeting was called to order at 7:06 PM.
The minutes from the prior meeting were approved by unanimous vote.
Chair report: Luc – Vigil on Monday, 6/13, was well-attended, 120+ people (estimated by Stephanie. )
Vice-chair report: Bowling for Equality will be 7/31, with registration opening at 12:30 pm, and bowling from 1 to 3 PM. Tickets are 10$, with $5 going to EQKS. Stephanie said she could contribute one or more prizes for the event. Benedette spoke about how one person’s feedback, in a large organization, can make a difference for equality.
Treasurer: Per Stephanie M balance is $112.22, unchanged from prior report.
Chapter Conference: Stephanie said they talked about the questions for the surveys, and the special session on education, re the “bathroom bill.” The next conference will be July 10th, 1-4pm, in Salina.
11/20 is Transgender Day of Remembrance, (TDOR) this year, although the actual date of local observation was suggested to be 11/19, a Saturday. Stephanie discussed with the Beacon members possible changes to TDOR inclusion/awareness, event site, and the potential involvement of other organizations. Committees were created on structure and outreach.
Equality Efforts: We discussed the current status of Equality efforts in Topeka, including primary and likely general election candidates. We are waiting on survey results.
Topeka Pride meeting will be June 29th, at Bunker Coffee in NOTO at 6pm.
Trans-Kansas #4 will be located in Topeka, August 26th & 27th at the UUFT. See transkansas.com for more information.
