Equality Kansas Meeting 11/21/16
Attendees: Luc B., Benedette K, Stephanie Mott, Lesley Hayward
Meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM.
Minutes from the October meeting were approved by unanimous vote.
Chair report: Transgender Day of Remembrance on 11/19 went well, with postings limited to those from the USA, as a slide show, and several speakers.
Luc and Stephanie went to St. Louis for the National Training Institute. Luc described it as intense, with great information and networking. Stephanie said it was to assist transgender leaders from around the country, to help create a more unified message. It was a regional conference, but did include some people from the coasts too, and was quite diverse. More meetings will follow in other states. Groups that helped create the meeting were the Transgender Law Center, Trans Justice Funding Project, GSA Network, with ACLU also being involved. Luc has a link on his Facebook page to connect those wishing to make a donation to send him to the Black Trans Advocacy conference, for B.T.M.I.
Vice-chair report: Benedette is now board member-elect, with Topeka Metropolitan Community Church, and looks forward to assisting with the growth of both MCC and EQKS.
Treasurer: Per Stephanie M balance is $202.22 unchanged from prior month.
Chapter Conference: Stephanie attended the November meeting by phone. No December meeting is planned. The next meeting is January 8th, tentatively set for Kansas City, with the annual meeting set for 1/28/17, location TBD.
Equality Efforts: We discussed the current status of Equality efforts in Topeka, including how to make the city council more LGBT-friendly, using some of the learnings from the National Training Institute meeting.
