Equality Kansas Meeting 12/21/15

Attendees: Luc B., Benedette K, Dan Brennan, Stephanie Mott
Meeting was called to order at 7:11 PM.
The minutes from were approved by unanimous vote.
Chair report: Luc – TDOR went well, impactful, but one of the audience asked Luc if violence against transmen was being overlooked? We will consider starting the planning for TDOR sooner, perhaps to include people victimized by violence, rather than only fatalities, or have it as a separate event. Plans are being made for Luc to attend the Black Transmen Advocacy Conference in late April. Further information will be posted to the E.K. web-page.
Vice-chair report: Benedette – Fund-raising tied to holidays, with Bingo was discussed, more discussion to follow. Other ideas include donations that get the donor’s name on some construction, which could be shared with another organization of similar goals. Stephanie suggested the creation of EK holiday ornaments, for sale, and getting involved with other organizations to enhance our public relations.
Treasurer: Opening balance was $75.85 after a payment to Tom Witt. We received a donation from Temple Beth Shalom, in the amount of $663 for an ending balance of $738.85. A motion was made and approved to close our existing checking account and open a new one under E.K.
Chapter Conference – No meeting this month, but the annual meeting will be in Wichita, 1/30/16.
Equality Efforts: Ben Scott was elected to the House Dist. #58, and Stephanie is considering the possibility of running for that seat in 2016, and continuing to evaluate L/G/B/T initiatives in the city of Topeka, and Shawnee County.
Organization work continues on the LGBT Center, per Dan Brennan. Members can sign up now, on the web-site, capcitycenter.org with no membership fee.
New Business: The next E.K. meeting will be January 25th, to avoid conflict with MLK events.
Announcements: MCC is having a Christmas-day pot-luck, at 1:30 PM . Trans-Kansas #4 will be located in Topeka, August 26th & 27th. KSTEP is having their next meeting Jan 23rd, in Topeka. Capital City NOW is holding Womyn Rising on March 26th, at Washburn University, with the theme of Women in Leadership. E.K. was represented at the Wedding Expo in November 2015.
